Beasts of Burden: Neighborhood Watch Review

What do our pets do when we’re not looking?

Ever wonder what your pets are thinking or what startled that animal for seemingly no apparent reason? For the first time, Dark Horse has gathered the, “Beasts of Burden,” stories to make the, “Neighborhood Watch,” collection. Each story gives us a glimpse into the secret world of the animals around us and their connection to the supernatural: where it began, living with that connection, and implications of what death signifies for having that connection.

Jill Thompson’s art is masterful, bringing the levity and cheer in each animal while juxtaposing it with the grim and somber moments of the supernatural. No matter what the tone, every page is vibrant and flows so easily from panel to panel.

I can’t recommend this book enough. If you’re looking to try something new and something different, this is your book. If you love animals and the idea that they’re the heroes behind the scenes, this is your book.
