The Road to SDCC: Joss Whedon?

San Diego Comic-Con International LogoThe rumor mill for San Diego Comic-Con is vast but I felt this is something so eye-catching you might just want to listen anyway even if it’s dead wrong. Sure, it’s a gamble but for all things related to SDCC, you have to wear the t-shirt saying, “Go Big or Don’t Line Up.” The big buzz? Joss Whedon. Come see why I am on the edge of my seat figuring out bombshell of a tip!

Let’s break this down a minute. The Latino Review is a well reputed site, they clearly don’t mess around and whatever news that put out has at least a few pounds of truth in it. Joss Whedon appearing at SDCC, hot off the wildly successful Avengers movie, and with no obvious project on the horizon is a huge x-factor. What could he be talking about? What wild and crazy story can be derived from this panel? It’s like if Bill Gates decided to randomly crash E3 to make an announcement for… something.

On the other hand, let’s back up and observe the hard facts to gain some perspective on this golden tweet of information. It’s just a tweet, not an official press release and not even Joss Whedon’s tweet. Tweets like these however literally start wildfires in the SDCC community, true or false, because they are sensational. We’d all love to believe the dream but when it comes time to wake up it’s never pleasant. I’ve never seen a full on riot before in SDCC but I could see one over something like this.

Though, to play some devil’s advocate, sometimes the rumor becomes a reality just because people want it to be so. “So who ordered the extra awesome Joss Whedon with a side of The Avengers?” Now it’s fully up to everybody to believe or not believe this information but I’d be insane to just disregard it flat out. For now though I am going to say this is on the level. Stay tuned everybody as more information as it rolls in!

  1. Joss did the following panel last year at SDCC.

    Saturday, July 23
3:00-4:00 Dark Horse: Joss Whedon— Long before signing on to helm one of the most anticipated superhero films in history, Joss Whedon rewarded fans the world over with some of the most compelling characters and plot lines in the history of comics, television, and movies. Here’s your chance to find out what he has in store for us next, including a sneak peek at the brand-new Angel & Faith and Buffy Season 9 comics, plus exciting news about Buffy digital comics! Indigo Ballroom, Hilton San Diego Bayfront.

My guess is if he shows up it would be for a panel similar to this one.
